CAM Government Affairs Committee Urges CAM Members to Work to Defeat SB 770

Thu, 02/23/2012 - 01:29
Senate Subcommittee Approves Drastic Changes to Michigan School Bond Qualification and Loan Act

A Michigan Senate subcommittee has just approved SB 770, which proposes a drastic overhaul of the Michigan School Bond Qualification and Loan Act.

If passed into law, SB 770 and its companion bills would eliminate millions of dollars of future school construction opportunities and cost the industry an estimated 50,000 construction jobs.  The legislation attempts to correct the problems of some School Districts' school bond financing by completely eliminating the current method for bonding school construction.  This would be a disaster for Michigan's construction industry.
The legislation will go before the full Senate Appropriations Committee soon and your assistance is needed.

CAM has partnered with the AGC and other associations to work to defeat this legislation.  Please read the attached memo and supporting documents.  Once the industry strategy is developed, we will be in touch again with further action.  In the meantime, it is important that you contact your Legislator to voice your concerns regarding SB 770.  Please go to this link to find your State Senator.  Also, the members of the Appropriations Committee should need to be contacted (links included below).
